Cultural Competency: A Deeper Dive into Inequality and Equity”

May 9, 2019 - 11:00 am – 4:30 pm

or

May 10, 2019 – 8:00 am - 1:30 pm

Dover Downs Conference Center

The Delaware Division of Public Health and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers will offer this training both in the morning and afternoon over a two day period in the format of two (2) 1/2 day trainings to accommodate participants on either day.

Participants need only attend 1 of the 1/2 day sessions for the conference.

The focus of this year’s cultural competency training is “Cultural Competency: A Deeper Dive into Inequality and Equity.”  Health equity is the principle underlying a commitment to reduce—and, ultimately, eliminate—disparities in health and in its determinants, including social determinants. Pursuing health equity means striving for the highest possible standard of health for all people and giving special attention to the needs of those at greatest risk of poor health, based on social conditions   Understanding the difference between equity and inequality is a key component in the effort to reduce health disparities among our vulnerable populations.

We are excited to have one of the nation’s leading Cultural Competency experts, Jennifer Daniels, provide this training.

All health care professionals including physicians, nurses, social workers, front office staff, facility managers, supervisors, etc… are strongly encouraged to attend.

The training will offer:

  • Discussion on what diversity, implicit bias, and cultural competency and how it impacts your work
  • Discussion on cultural differences as it relates to age, sexuality, race and more
  • Discussion on privilege and structural/systemic oppression
  • Discussion on what  you can do to combat injustice
  • Discussion on how to engage diverse populations
  • Discussion on self-care
  • Excellent networking opportunity
  • Continuing Education Credits for Nurses are pending approval!
