Cultural Competency Training

May 11, 2017 - 11:00 am – 4:30 pm or

May 12, 2017 – 8:00 am - 1:30 pm

Dover Downs Conference Center

The Delaware Division of Public Health and the Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers will offer this training both in the morning and afternoon over a two day period in the format of two (2) 1/2 day trainings to accommodate participants on either day.  Participants need only attend 1 of the 1/2 day sessions for the conference.

Due to the changing landscape of healthcare, the focus of this year’s cultural competency training is on “Breaking the Barriers to Care: Its Impact on Addiction, Treatment and Recovery.” As primary care providers cater to our most vulnerable, many of us will be charged with assisting clients/patients in navigating this new paradigm. The training will provide new techniques in addressing cultural and linguistic barriers to care with an emphasis on the fundamental elements of Cultural Competency for Health Care Professionals and will assist participants in providing more culturally sensitive services in a health care setting.  Understanding Cultural Competency and how it fits into your organization will help your organization meet the increased demand for health care services from culturally and linguistically diverse populations, foster greater collaboration and ultimately provide safe and quality care to your patients.

We are excited to have one of the nation’s leading Cultural Competency experts, Cheri Wilson, provide this training to health professionals.

All health care professionals including physicians, nurses, social workers, front office staff, facility managers, supervisors, etc… are strongly encouraged to attend.

The training will offer:

§ Discussions on substance abuse and addiction issues

§ Strategies for health entities to foster greater engagement with clients and co-workers.

§ Excellent networking opportunity.

§ Continuing Education Credits for Nurses has been applied for!
