La Red Health Center to Open New Health Care Facility

La Red is Spanish for “the network,” and that’s what has developed since the La Red Health Center began more than a decade ago as a 24-hour hotline to facilitate access to medical care for non-English speaking residents of Sussex County. A few months from now, all the operations of LRHC in Georgetown will be under one roof in a 25,000-square-foot building under construction across the street from Del Tech.

LRHC broke ground for its new health care facility in Georgetown on Feb. 4, 2011. The exterior is now complete; the winter months will be spent finishing the interior. The goal is to have a certificate of occupancy by mid-March 2012. The larger, fully modernized building will allow the center to expand its clinical services and oral health services. Dental services are currently being provided from a van with two dental chairs which is on loan from the state.

Twelve to 14 new positions will be added to the Seaford health center as a direct result of the federal grant. Recruiting has already begun, with positions posted on the website, www.laredhealthcenter.org.
