Choptank Community Health System was honored by the Maryland Partnership for Prevention and the Maryland Childhood Immunization Partnership for its efforts to promote health and outreach services for children in the community. The award was presented on June 14th at a luncheon held at the Sheraton Columbia Town Center Hotel in Columbia, MD.

Choptank Community Health System is being recognized for its contributions and focus on vaccination services and wellness promotion including preventative dental services. Community collaboratives are important in accomplishing these services. In the last year, Choptank, in partnership with Priority Partners, offered several training sessions to parents about preventative services such as: what symptoms require a sick child visit, how to perform oral care for children, and how to take a child’s temperature. In addition, Choptank staff worked with the local Girl Scouts of America to teach healthy choices to young girls.

In partnership with the public school systems of Caroline, Dorchester and Talbot counties, Choptank participates in back-to-school nights to promote wellness and enrollment in Choptank school-based health care and dental services. Through its participation in community events, festivals, parades and fairs, Choptank has continued its outreach efforts though out the region. Recently CCHS has expanded its efforts to include its web site and social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter.
